Networking Stories

A Funny Little Story

I was invited to attend a networking group that needed a furniture person to add to their mix. The group met over breakfast at Stage West in Mississauga.

I had not met anyone from the group, so I didn’t know what they looked like. When I arrived, I walked around the restaurant a bit, but couldn’t see anything that looked like a meeting. I noticed a man sitting by himself, looking around as though he was waiting for someone, so I asked him if he was part of “ the group.”

He said, “Yes,” so I sat down and we started talking. He was involved in doing business facility renovations – an excellent contact for me. Wow, I had a good feeling about this networking group!

After about 20 minutes we both agreed it was odd that no one else had turned up. He eventually figured out that he was at the wrong restaurant. I finally spotted my group (after they had finished their breakfast) tucked away in a far corner of the restaurant.

Mr. Renovations and I exchange leads today and we both ended up joining that networking group meeting monthly at Stage West. I’m still amazed at the serendipity of finding such an appropriate networking partner completely by accident.
