It’s Never Too Early or Too Late To Start
My husband obtained his first "career job" through a networking group we belonged to in college.
The community in which we attended college had networking and educational group for local business people. The focus of this particular group was to promote knowledge of new computer technology, and in doing so advance the local economy. Wisely, the group encouraged the development of a college chapter for students and we were welcome to attend the monthly dinner meetings which featured speakers on new technology.
The structure of the meeting provided us plenty of opportunity to socialize with members of the business community, while at the same time learn about the latest and greatest developments. During his last year at school, my husband developed a friendly rapport with a manager from a local company. Each month they had an opportunity to talk. Upon graduation the man contacted my husband, invited him in for an interview and subsequently hired him.
This proved to be a very valuable way for college students to network with people already in the workforce, particularly those with hiring authority. For business, the group provided an opportunity to learn, exchange ideas, and spot new talent. It was a superb opportunity for all involved.
